1. Launch.co analysis

People judge books by their covers, and investment deals by their domains and logos.
-Jason Calacanis

I didn’t read this until after I had registered my domains, but I took it to heart when developing my brands. That quote comes from Jasons blog post on launch.co, and by applying its valuation principles to my names, I feel I have some amazing domains!

From Launch.co’s blog post “How to name you startup and land the perfect domain”

Great companies have great names (and the associated domain names). It’s not a coincidence. Branding is hard. Acquiring great domains is hard. That’s why investors, customers, partners, the press and potential hires pay attention to it. Under no circumstance should you settle for an OK or bad name, except if it’s just a placeholder and you’re NOT showing it to investors. It’s fine to have a good name when you’re in your angel round, but when you’re getting to scale as a company you’re going to want to spend the money–even if it costs $100,000–to get a killer domain name.

Amazing names take a lot of work, sometimes months–even years–to land. They usually cost $10k to $100k – and even top $1 million on occasion. Good to great names take weeks to get, and cost a couple of grand generally. OK names can be bought for $8.95 right now on GoDaddy. It’s going to be a ton of hard work to get really good, and sometimes great, domain names. It will take tons of debate, hours and hours of making lists, and countless emails reaching out to folks to buy a domain.

Thankfully I don’t need to go through that to register my domains, since I picked them up first.

The blog post goes on to list the qualities of good, bad, and amazing domain names. I’ll assign a numeric value to each to quantify them: +2 for each amazing quality, +1 for good, and nothing for the baddies.

Amazing names
(+2)
Good names

Bad Names

Tesla Blitz

For the Elon ‘Iron Man’ Musk fan-boys, Tesla Blitz will give you direct access to the man, the Myth, the MIGHTY… Mr. Musky! Our 49 Tesla domain Blitz is one play that is guaranteed to gain his attention[!E’]. The Blitz creates a doorway into that comic book dimension, will you step through it with us?

A little about myself, I conceived the Tesla Blitz as a way to follow my bliss and work with someone that inspires passion. I share many similarities with Elon and consider him an exulted peer. I want to work with him on his Millennial projects.

In the midst of Tesla’s battle with China Tesla troll, Zhan Baosheng, I quietly registered 49 tesla. domain names in the new GTLD expansion. I kind of thought Elon would want them, and maybe I could show him why he wanted them. If he wants them then he will know my name, and if I gave them to him maybe he would remember it.

So great, I have all these domains and ideas for them, but how will I capitalize on them? Well, before DSM Start-up Weekend on 10/10 I sent a email to Elon, Tesla Motors’ Board, and their IP attorney John Crittenden… with an ultimatum in the P.S. “If I don’t hear back from you by Monday I’ll proceed with the Tesla Blitz (11:11:14:11:11;)” Thus starting the countdown clock to the barrage, and giving me a deadline.

I conceived of The Tesla Blitz as a synchronized mass email campaign to Elon and key individuals in his organization. Emails from all 49 domains would simultaneous send at 11:11 PST on November 11th. Elon would receive 1 email from all domains, insuring my emails would form a contiguous block several screens long in his email reader. Other recipients would only receive 1 or 2 emails from domains they may have a hand in developing.

I thought I would develop these 14 interlinking blogs to create a good SEO base to promote the other 18 sites to the top of search results.

As part of my Tesla Blitz, I’ve used about half of the domain for blogs to research various aspects of Tesla Motors.
tesla.za.com : Zany facts and tidbits relating to Tesla
tesla.works : Blogging how tesla creates jobs in the various sectors
Tesla.watch : Financial news and projections for Tesla Motors
Tesla.tattoo : Tesla in indelible ink
Tesla.ru.com : A blog asking “Tesla, are you just another .com bubble?”[!e’]
Tesla.reviews : A blog detailing reviews of tesla vehicles
Tesla.red : A blog detailing Tesla’s movements in China
Tesla.photos : A blog of cool Tesla vanity plates
Tesla.nom.es : Blog detailing Tesla’s noms… or the areas it is taking over.[!e’]
Tesla.no.com : Blog tesla’s status as not another .com… or not your normal commercial entity.
Tesla.ninja : Blog detailing Tesla pen testing and security
Tesla.guitars : Music blog dedicated to artists dedicated to Tesla.
Tesla.buzz : Blog for Tesla news
Tesla.builders : Blog about people involved in Tesla Motors.

I feel these domains could generate tens of millions of dollars of revenue for Tesla in the next 6 years.

Aquarius

For everyone now, and yet to come, on this earth, Aquarius * will solve most of the worlds problems. Aquarius * is the blueprint for a new age. Our meta organizational structure and technologies promises to bring peace and prosperity to mankind.

Inspired by Marshall Savage’s book: The Millennial Project, Colonizing the Galaxy in 8 Easy Steps (chapter 2).

The Millennial Project is a book I wish I’d written: correction — it’s a book I wish I _could_ have written. I am completely awed, and I don’t awe easily, by the author’s command of a dozen engineering disciples and his amazing knowledge of scientific and technical literature”

  • Arthur C. Clark

Aquarius exploits the simple relationship: Power + Seawater = Buoyancy. I believe Aquarius.* fulfills a vital missing piece in Elon Musks long-term space exploration goals.
